HAFL College Scholarship Program

Each year, if budget allows, HAFL offers college scholarships to graduating seniors who have participated in the league as a player or cheerleader. Applicants are ranked via a blind evaluation process considering tenure with HAFL, high school extra curricular activities, awards, and community service.

We are pleased to announce our 2012-13 HAFL Scholarship recipient! $1000 will be sent to the college of Marcus' choice. Marcus exhibits the athleticism, educational excellence, sportsmanship, leadership, and community activism that truly embodies the type of alumnus HAFL is so proud to have. Congratulations Marcus, and best wishes for your future!

Marcus Starghill

Chester W. Nimitz High School to Bacone College

Marcus played football with HAFL for 7 years, then went on to play football, baseball, and track at NHS.

"Now that my high school years have come to an end, my plans are to continue playing football in college. I often laugh to myself when I think of that small six year old walking on the field that day to play the game of football for the first time. What if my mother would have told me no? Where would I be today? The Humble Area Football League developed something in me that will last a lifetime."

We are excited and proud to announce our 2011-12 HAFL Scholarship recipients! We have 3 very deserving seniors who are former HAFL players and our selection to each receive a $1000 scholarship to the college of their choice. We wish these young men all the best and can't wait to hear of their future accomplishments. We hope that one day they return to HAFL with children of their own to play.

Pedro Jasso

Atascocita High School to Lamar University

Pedro played football with HAFL for 6 years, then went on to play football and track at AHS.

"I was living a very unhealthy life…thanks to HAFL I got off the sofa and became more active. I strapped on my first helmet almost 12 years ago and never looked back. Now that I am 18 years old, I still love the game of football as much as I did the first time I stepped on the field at Lindsay Lyons. Special thanks to everyone who puts in all the extra hours to bring HAFL together and a special thanks to the coaches for their genuine dedication and hard work."

J.P. Henshaw

Humble High School to Stephan F Austin

J.P. played football with HAFL for 7 years, then went on to play football and baseball at HHS.

"Through HAFL, I learned about friendship, hard work, and hard fought battles. Football taught me the most about morals and values. Like how to put your heart into everything you do, and to gain anything you must put the work in to it. That life isn't just about you, but about your friends and community. I will never forget the memories of playing for HAFL."

Michael Headlee

Summer Creek High School to The Ohio State University

Michael played football with HAFL for 4 years, then went on to swimming at SCHS.

"The Humble Area Football League has helped me become the person that I am today. I have learned how to develop relationships with friends and to be respectful to my coaches. I was able to develop leadership skills by having a specific duty and role on the football team. I learned to work as a team member, not just trying to do everything myself. Responsibility was a huge part of my learning experience. Remembering to bring all of my equipment to practices and games was vital to my success on the field, just as being responsible for doing homework and turning it in on time is vital to my success as a student. I would recommend being part of the Humble Area Football League to any young kid, not just to learn football, but to develop the life skills that will stay with you for the remainder of your life."
